Glossing: The Procedure Everyone Walks Past

There are things in the beauty industry sold as magic that are really just chemistry at a fixed price. And there are things sold as nothing, even though they are magic. Glossing is the second kind. For ten years I have watched clients pay 200 euros for a treatment that lasts two weeks and walk right past a 46-euro procedure that refreshes their color, seals the cuticle, and holds for six weeks. Marketing is a powerful thing.

What glossing actually is: a translucent, ammonia-free color that does not penetrate the hair but wraps around it. Picture a glass bottle: matte on the inside, polished after glossing. Light no longer scatters, it reflects. That is where the "glass shine" in the name comes from, and it is physics, not marketing.

Glossing is not coloring. The difference is fundamental. Color changes the color: it opens the cuticle, goes inside, and stays there. Gloss adds tone and shine on top without breaking the structure. You can do it even on fresh keratin (full color — no, remember the two-week rule), and it fades in four to six weeks without a scary regrowth line. There is no line you urgently need to cover. The color simply quietly dims.

Who needs it most. After lightening, when blonde looks limp and yellow (a gloss with violet pigment will kill the yellow for six weeks). After keratin, when you want shine but cannot color yet. Honestly, everyone with colored hair: between main color sessions, glossing maintains the depth, and your next full color looks fresher longer. And for anyone afraid of coloring altogether: this is the gentlest possible entry into color.

Who does not need it: if you are a natural brunette with perfectly healthy virgin hair (such people exist; I have met two in ten years). Your hair already reflects light, and gloss would buy you 10 percent more shine for 46 euros. Buy a better shampoo instead.

The numbers. Glossing up to mid-neck length: 120 minutes, 46 euros. Shoulder length: 180 minutes, 56 euros. Mid-shoulder-blade: 240 minutes, 72 euros. Waist length: 270 minutes, 87 euros. There is no aggressive chemistry in it, so it is compatible with keratin, with pregnancy (gentle formulas exist, but tell your master), and with the swimming pool. After glossing, the same rules apply: sulfate-free shampoo, or the film washes off in two weeks instead of six.

And the nice part: glossing can be done the same day as your color or keratin. It adds thirty minutes to an hour on top of the appointment. Color plus shine in one visit. Come in and we will work out what your color actually needs: a full color, a toning, or just a dose of shine.

46 euros for six weeks of shine and color depth versus 200 euros for a two-week treatment. What glossing actually does.
